Our Story

Hum London is a lighting brand founded by sisters Ellie and Hermione Gee, specialising in hand-painted & perforated lampshade designs which are handmade in the England.

We’re passionate about making vibe-enhancing lighting. Lampshades that look beautiful from afar, and become even more special when seen up close. Whether that might be the tiny pinholes in a perforated lampshade that twinkle when lit, or the way the paintbrush leaves subtle texture on our painted shades. Thoughtful details make all the difference and can really be celebrated with handmade pieces.

Quality and mindful production are at the heart of our brand, and we’re proud to work with some of the best lampshade makers in the country who've spent decades mastering their craft. Our lampshades are suitable for a variety of fittings, from wall lights and table lamps to pendants, and can be custom-made in different shapes and sizes.

Our journey began with a pair of lampshades painted by Hermione for her flat back in 2020. Now, our collection of painted lampshades feature the same warm colours, and designs that range from delicate gemstones and bold stripes, to our Celestial style, with ethereal illustrations and hand-punched holes that create a gentle, twinkling glow when illuminated. We also offer a bespoke design service — often a collaborative process, this could involve anything from one-off designs to simple adaptations of our core collection, such as painting a shade in a bespoke colour.

Handmade in the UK

Fuelled by a love of giving new life to old treasures, last year we embarked on a new chapter - creating limited edition lampshades made from antique and vintage fabrics. The first in this series was the Prairie Lampshades, crafted from beautiful hand embroidered textiles dating back to the 18th century, which were awarded the Innovation Award from English Home Magazine for the soft, dappled light they cast into a room.
